Job Description & How to Apply Below
This is a full-time on-site role for a Structural Engineer, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The position is ideal for candidates with a strong background in structural analysis, design, and materials engineering who are passionate about advancing nuclear innovation through precision engineering and safety-focused design.
The Structural Engineer will lead the structural design, analysis, and verification of Hadron Energy’s micro modular reactor systems, enclosures, and supporting infrastructure. This individual will work closely with mechanical, thermal, and civil engineers to ensure structural integrity under normal, seismic, and extreme loading conditions.
You will play a critical role in translating conceptual designs into engineered, manufacturable structures that meet safety, performance, and regulatory requirements—helping to pioneer scalable clean energy systems built for resilience and global deployment.
Responsibilities
• Design and analyze structural systems for reactor modules, enclosures, transport frames, and balance-of-plant components
• Perform finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate structural integrity, stresses, fatigue, and thermal effects
• Develop and review structural drawings, calculations, and material specifications in compliance with ASME, AISC, and NRC standards
• Collaborate with mechanical, civil, and manufacturing teams to ensure structures are optimized for assembly, transportability, and modular production
• Conduct seismic, wind, and load analyses in accordance with applicable building codes and nuclear safety requirements
• Support the selection and qualification of structural materials for high-temperature and radiation environments
• Prepare design documentation and reports for internal reviews and regulatory submissions
• Coordinate with external vendors, fabricators, and inspectors to verify design intent and quality standards
• Support prototype testing, validation, and design modifications as part of the development cycle
• Contribute to design reviews, safety evaluations, and multidisciplinary integration meetings
Qualifications & Skills ets
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
• 5+ years of experience in structural design and analysis for industrial, energy, or infrastructure projects
• Proficiency in FEA and CAD tools such as ANSYS, Abaqus, Solid Works Simulation, or equivalent
• Strong understanding of ASME, AISC, and building codes (IBC, ASCE 7, etc.)
• Experience with seismic, vibration, and dynamic load analyses
• Knowledge of welded structures, pressure boundaries, and high-reliability materials
• Familiarity with nuclear, aerospace, or heavy-industry design requirements is a plus
• Strong communication and teamwork skills with cross-functional engineering teams
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and documentation capabilities
• Passion for clean energy, precision engineering, and building systems that enable a sustainable future
