Job DescriptionWSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Technical Manager, Electrical Engineer for our San Francisco office or a Lead Electrical Engineer for our San Francisco or Sacramento CA office. The candidate will be involved in projects with our Transportation Sector Mechanical & Electrical Team and be part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
Responsibilities include high‑level technical assistance and guidance for multi‑site/phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development and construction of utility, industrial and commercial‑scale projects in the public and private sector. Tasks include research, design, concept development, planning and construction of transmission and distribution substations, power distribution, power regulation, renewable energy, protection and control systems in a variety of contexts.
MajorDuties and Responsibilities
- Acts as staff specialist in providing technical guidance for complex or unique assignments.
- May direct segments of a major project and participate in the application of engineering concepts and techniques.
- Analyzes complex problems requiring development of new or improved techniques or procedures.
- Monitors project progress for technical accuracy and adherence to schedule and budget.
- May act as a representative at project meetings and conferences.
- May plan, organize and supervise engineering staff and activities for a project of significant size and complexity.
- Making recommendations on project staffing.
- Perform design tasks requiring independent judgment in the evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard design or engineering techniques and procedures.
- Ensure that production of specifications, reports and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost and quality requirements.
- Electrical calculations including electrical loads, equipment sizing, feeder sizing, load flow, voltage drop, short circuit, selective coordination and arc flash.
- Lighting design including calculations, circuiting and controls.
- Facility electrical service and power distribution design for 480/277, 120/208, and 120/240 volt classifications.
- Medium‑Voltage knowledge and work experience; grounding design and calculations for system and equipment grounding.
- Motor control center (MCC) design including layouts, sizing, and motor starter selection.
- Standby and emergency power system design including generator and uninterruptible power supply (UPS).
- Coordination with other design disciplines, including architectural, mechanical, systems, civil, geotechnical, structures, hydraulics/drainage, storm water, traffic, utilities, right of way.
- May serve as a PM on some projects.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate, review and approve electrical infrastructure design plans for smaller and less‑complex projects, ensuring data integrity and compliance with all relevant codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Apply high‑level electrical engineering techniques and processes to identify improvements for various infrastructure project phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction and operation.
- Perform professional and complex electrical engineering work relating to the design of single‑line, three‑line, wiring diagrams, general arrangement, substation layout and bus arrangement, grounding grid design and lightning protection in conformance with applicable rules, standards and permits.
- Plan and incorporate future‑ready techniques, concept development, operating strategies and equipment sizing with cabling, panel design and conduit/trenching strategies that account for safety and functionality of end users and systems.
