This position is primarily an onsite role with potential for hybrid working days based on business needs.

Position Summary

The Chief Credit Officer (CCO) is responsible for providing support, direction, credit information, and loan policies and procedures to ensure the overall quality of the Bank’s lending portfolio. Duties include using the CECL Model to calculate the Allowance for Credit Losses (ACL) and making recommendations to executive management and the Board of Directors for quarterly allocations to the Loan Loss Reserve.

Conduct thorough reviews of all loans prior to submission to the Loan and Investment Committee (LIC) for approval. Oversee remediation of OCC exam and independent audit findings. Also responsible for managing ongoing credit risk, including timely risk grading of all loans, and performing semi-annual stress tests. Provide direct supervision duties over departmental staff, ensuring responsibility and accountability for compliance with Bank policies, procedures, and all applicable federal and state banking regulations.

  • Strong analytical skills to assess all relevant information about loan applicants and a company’s credit situation, and good decision-making skills to avoid high-risk loans and protect profits based on financial data analysis and budgeting.
  • Ability to develop an effective staff team and strong leadership, including training staff regarding financial policy.
Responsibilities
  • Overseeing the credit approval process and portfolio monitoring systems for all current and future credit products.
  • Ensuring that credit policies are regularly reviewed, updated as necessary, and well-communicated throughout the organization.
  • Maintaining ongoing support of the Bank’s credit culture across significant lending units, including consumer, business, wealth management, commercial and corporate banking.
  • Responsible for loan loss reserve and charge-off processes to be aligned with industry best practices and current and anticipated regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensuring loan documentation, systems, and procedures meet the highest industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensuring that all loan systems and tracking provide the right information to bankers, executive management, and the Board of Directors for accurate assessment of loan quality and risk management.
  • Providing overall loan portfolio management oversight to ensure asset quality meets objectives and that credit relationship management aligns with underwriting standards, including analysis of loan concentrations by type and geography.
  • Overseeing future development and enhancements of analytical and quantitative models for the portfolio, including refinement of stress test procedures.
  • Supporting healthy diversification of the loan portfolio by establishing sound credit policies and training bankers and credit officers, engaging multiple constituencies in partnership.
  • Maintaining awareness of competitors’ activities and industry best practices to position divisions to leverage changes and opportunities in target markets.
  • Serving as the Bank’s spokesperson to regulators, external constituents, and customers regarding credit management disciplines, loan quality, and lending activities.
  • Providing quantitative oversight of credit extension activities, including evaluating existing systems and, when appropriate, selecting and implementing new systems to ensure high integrity and consistency of policies and procedures.
Ideal Qualifications & Knowledge
  • Bachelor Degree or higher in economics, business, accounting, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Bank or Credit Union experience preferred
  • 10 years of industry experience including both asset origination and credit assignments with active client contact; leadership roles in workout and turnaround phases of banking.
  • Strong knowledge of risk management discipline and techniques, specifically credit risk management for Commercial and Commercial Real Estate lending, with familiarity of business climate in small and medium enterprises.

The salary range for this role is USD $180,000-$200,000 annually. The base salary opportunity can vary based on geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
