Marble is building the next generation of tax intelligence for practitioners. Our mission is to help tax professionals do their most critical work with confidence by combining deep tax expertise with cutting‑edge AI. We believe the future of tax practice is powered by technology that practitioners can truly trust - and that trust starts with tax experts shaping the product from the inside.
The RoleWe are hiring Tax Specialist - Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) who are experienced tax professionals looking for a career shift into technology. In this role, you will play a foundational part in shaping Marble’s product, intelligence, and practitioner experience.
As a Tax SME, you will be the voice of the tax professional inside Marble. You will work deeply with our Product and Engineering teams to ensure our AI intelligence is accurate, explainable, and aligned with how real practitioners think and work. Your expertise will directly influence how thousands of tax professionals research, analyze, and make decisions.
This is not a client‑facing compliance role. It is an opportunity to apply your tax expertise at scale to help build the future tools of the profession.
What You’ll Do Be the Voice of the Practitioner- Partner closely with Product Managers to deeply understand practitioner workflows, pain points, and decision‑making processes.
- Bring strong, informed viewpoints on how tax software should work based on real‑world firm experience.
- Translate practitioner needs and frustrations into clear product requirements and priorities.
- Ensure Marble’s product reflects how tax professionals actually reason, research, and advise.
- Work hand‑in‑hand with Engineers to improve response quality, accuracy, and tax reasoning.
- Review AI outputs for technical correctness, nuance, and practitioner usability.
- Help define what “good” looks like for tax intelligence beyond surface‑level answers.
- Design and maintain evaluation frameworks to test tax accuracy, completeness, and reliability.
- Define standards that ensure practitioners can trust Marble for critical, high‑stakes work.
- Identify gaps, edge cases, and risk areas in tax intelligence and help close them.
- Monitor and analyze new tax law, regulations, guidance, and court cases.
- Write clear, in-depth analyses and practical guidance for practitioners.
- Ensure this analysis is integrated directly into Marble’s product experience.
- Leverage hands‑on experience with multiple tax compliance and workflow tools to influence better system design.
- Help Marble rethink how firms operate, reducing friction, increasing confidence, and improving efficiency.
- Influence long‑term product and intelligence strategy from a tax perspective.
- Credentialed tax professional: CPA, Tax Attorney (JD/LLM), or Enrolled Agent.
- 5+ years of experience in public accounting, law, or complex tax advisory roles.
- Deep technical knowledge in one or more areas (e.g., individual, business, partnership, SALT, international, or procedural tax).
- Hands‑on experience using multiple tax compliance and/or research software platforms (e.g., Pro System fx, Ultra Tax, Lacerte, Drake, CCH Axcess, GoSystem, etc.).
- Strong, well‑formed opinions on how tax software and firm workflows can be improved so firms can operate more effectively.
- Curious about technology and excited by the idea of shaping AI‑powered tools.
- Able to explain complex tax concepts clearly and precisely.
- Comfortable giving direct feedback and collaborating across disciplines.
- Motivated by impact and scale rather than billable hours.
- Experience writing technical tax content or internal firm guidance.
- Exposure to tax research platforms or tax technology tools.
- Interest in AI, data, or knowledge systems (no engineering background required).
- Make a career transition without leaving tax expertise behind.
- Influence a product used by practitioners nationwide.
- Work closely with world‑class product and AI teams.
- Help define the standard for trust and accuracy in tax intelligence.
- Competitive compensation, equity, and fully remote flexibility.
