Position: Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA)

Position

The Speech and Language Pathology Assistant will work under the direction and supervision of a credentialed Speech and Language Pathologist and assist in working with elementary school students in screening, evaluating, diagnosing, and treating disorders of communication. These disorders of speech and language may include issues with articulation, fluency, voice, verbal and written language, auditory comprehension, and cognition communication. This position will execute specific components of a speech and language program as specified in an individualized educational plan (IEP) composed by the Speech and Language Pathologist.

Functions
  • Provide speech and language services to students in alignment with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) under the supervision of a licensed Speech‑Language Pathologist (SLP).
  • Implement treatment plans and goals developed by the supervising SLP to address students’ speech production, language, and communication needs.
  • Deliver direct and indirect services through Tier 1 and Tier 2 interventions, documenting student progress and response to supports.
  • Assist the SLP with screenings and assessments of language, voice, fluency, articulation, and hearing (without clinical interpretation of results).
  • Collect and maintain accurate data on therapy sessions, student performance, and progress toward IEP goals; prepare reports and documentation for the IEP and interdisciplinary team.
  • Prepare and adapt instructional materials such as visuals, games, and augmentative communication devices to support student engagement and success.
  • Support collaboration and communication with teachers, school staff, and families to reinforce carryover of speech and language strategies in the classroom and home.
  • Participate in professional learning, workshops, and supervision meetings to strengthen practice and stay current with developments in the field.
  • Assist with clerical and organizational tasks related to therapy scheduling, materials preparation, and record‑keeping.
  • Maintain and perform routine checks on speech and language equipment or devices to ensure proper functioning.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, adaptability, and cultural responsiveness, maintaining a patient and encouraging attitude toward all students.
  • Manage time effectively, follow the established schedule, and communicate promptly about any changes.
  • Uphold ethical and regulatory standards for Speech‑Language Pathology Assistants and all applicable school or district policies.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Speech‑Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) License issued by the State of California (required).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish or Vietnamese (strongly preferred, but not required).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with educators, administrators, and families.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment while maintaining attention to detail and professionalism.
  • Proven ability to apply the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties of a Speech‑Language Pathology Assistant effectively.
  • Associate’s degree required;
    Bachelor’s preferred.
