Position Summary- Assist patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to both acute and post-acute patients/residents as appropriate to patient’s age and developmental stage and assist in maintenance of a safe and clean environment.
- Performs various duties necessary to address the personal, hygienic, comfort and safety needs of the patient. The HA/CNA works in conjunction with and under the supervision of the Licensed Nurse.
- The HA/CNA will demonstrate competency and commitment in achieving organizational and nursing department goals, as outlined in the HA/CNA behavior list.
- Complies with CHA Compliance Handbook including Code of Ethics and all Statutes, regulations and guidelines applicable to federal and state programs. Responsibilities include, following the guidelines and reporting suspected violations of any statute, regulations, agreements or guidelines applicable to all healthcare programs.
- Practices service philosophy standards in all aspects of job performance and promotes positive, supportive work relationship with all members of the hospital work force.
- Demonstrates competency and professional responsibility in selected psychomotor skills (procedures) that is appropriate to patient’s age and developmental stage and allowed within the HA/CNA scope of care.
- Promotes and maintains a safe working environment and ensures safe conduct in all aspects of job performance.
- Maintains Chinese Hospital’s attendance and punctuality standards in a consistent and regular manner.
- Bathes, cleans, dresses and undresses patients.
- Answers call lights to determine patient needs in a timely and professional manner.
- Transports/transfer patients via wheelchair, gurney, commode, bed, walkers, etc.
- Turns, repositions and provide comfort measures to patient to prevent pressure ulcers.
- Performs duties, utilizing knowledge of medical terminology, blood borne pathogen/infection control standards and other hospital policy and procedures, standards and protocols.
- Follows all infection control policies and procedures, including appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and hand hygiene.
- Change bed linens, run errands, direct visitors, collects specimens and answers telephones.
- Serves/collects food trays and assist with feeding patients.
- Greets and directs all visitors.
- Takes vital signs, weights, measures input and output and records in chart.
- Assist in preparation of unit, rooms, and bed for admits and assist with the admission assessment.
- Assist in preparation for discharge and/or provide post-mortem care.
- Must be proficient in the operation of the following patient care equipment: stethoscope, B/P cuff and sphygmomanometer, thermometer, telemetry leads in specific patient care areas, hospital beds, gurneys, wheelchairs, walker, scales, commodes, IV poles. Must be familiar with traction, tubes, drains, collection devices, and specialty beds.
- Ability to use patient transport, moving, and lifting equipment and devices.
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certificate in the State of California or student nurse in an approved NLN program required.
- Six (6) months previous experience in Medical-Surgical (M/S) nursing preferred.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification
- High School Education or equivalent preferred
- Able to speak, read, write and understand English
- Bilingual preferred
- Proficient in the use of Hospital equipment specific to the job duties or able to use all equipment within three (3) months of employment.
- Basic computer skills. Microsoft Office skills preferred.
- Ability to use the electronic health record or ability to learn to use it within three (3) months of employment.
- The Hospital Aide HA/CNA must be able to perform skills to meet the special needs and behavior of specific age population.
