Position Summary

The HR Generalist provides comprehensive support across multiple HR functions, including benefits and leave administration, accommodations, workers’ compensation, safety processes, reporting, audits, compensation, job descriptions, and other critical HR operations.

This role requires strong working knowledge of California and federal employment laws, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage sensitive matters with professionalism. The HR Generalist will partner closely with employees, managers, and HR colleagues to ensure accurate, timely, and compassionate HR service delivery.

Key Responsibilities
Benefits & Leaves Support
  • Support day-to-day administration of employee leaves, ensuring timely and accurate processing of all leave types (CFRA, PDL, FMLA, PWFA, etc.).
  • Provide guidance to employees and managers on leave policies and wage-replacement programs.
  • Collaborate with managers to evaluate and coordinate workplace accommodation requests under FEHA/ADA.
  • Conduct follow-up with employees regarding leave requests, status updates, benefit premiums, and disability or bonding claims.
  • Respond to employee inquiries and resolve complex issues related to benefits and leave programs, escalating as appropriate.
  • Support annual open enrollment, benefits education, and new hire enrollment activities.
  • Serve as back-up for Benefits & Leaves Specialists to ensure continuity of services.
  • Maintain compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and employment regulations.
Employee Experience & Relations
  • Respond promptly and professionally to employee questions and concerns, ensuring timely resolution aligned with HR policies.
  • Deliver bi-monthly new hire orientations; update materials and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Participate in exit interviews and review survey data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Support employee engagement and wellness initiatives.
HR Projects & Operational Support
  • Assist with development and updates of job descriptions across the agency.
  • Support cross-functional HR projects that enhance compliance, improve processes, and elevate the employee experience.
  • Generate HR reports such as turnover, headcount, and other metrics; provide insights for data-driven decision-making.
  • Assist with audits, reporting, and other department initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; HR certification preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of HR Generalist experience in California or equivalent HR experience; nonprofit or highly regulated environments a plus.
  • Experience administering benefits and leave programs in a high-volume setting.
