About

The Role

The role owns the day-to-day HR operations that keep a fast-growing company running smoothly: employee lifecycle from onboarding through offboarding, benefits administration, policy implementation, and compliance across California employment law.

You will act as a first point of contact for employee questions, partner with People leadership on programs like performance reviews and engagement, and help scale HR systems and processes as headcount grows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the full employee lifecycle: onboarding, offboarding, leaves of absence, and documentation
  • Administer benefits programs and open enrollment; serve as first-line support for employee questions
  • Maintain and improve the HRIS (BambooHR, Rippling, Workday, or similar) — data integrity, workflows, and reporting
  • Support compliance with federal and California employment regulations, including required training and record-keeping
  • Partner with People leadership on performance review cycles, engagement surveys, and policy rollouts
  • Investigate and escape employee relations issues with sound judgment and discretion
  • Run headcount, retention, and DEI reporting for leadership reviews
What We Are Looking For
  • 3-6 years of HR experience, including at least 2 years as an HR Generalist or in a people-operations role
  • Strong knowledge of California employment law and multi-state HR compliance
  • Hands-on experience with an HRIS (BambooHR, Rippling, or Workday preferred)
  • Experience administering benefits and managing leaves of absence (FMLA, CFRA, STD)
  • Excellent judgment, discretion, and communication skills with employees at all levels
  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Bonus: PHR/SHRM-CP certification; experience supporting recruiting coordination or workplace programs at a startup
