City and County of San Francisco is seeking four (4) Maintenance Manager positions in the Port’s Maintenance Division. The role is responsible for leading multidisciplinary maintenance shops that support the Port’s diverse waterfront infrastructure and operations.

Job Description

Maintenance Managers provide leadership to skilled trades staff, coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance, and support capital and operational projects that advance the Port’s mission. They supervise staff, develop policies, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, schedule, and supervise staff performing maintenance, repair, and construction of Port facilities.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce maintenance policies, procedures, and guidelines consistent with Port, City, and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise and support emergency maintenance and repair operations, including after‑hours response and marine‑related incidents.
  • Oversee maintenance budgets, procurement, and resource allocation.
  • Develop cost estimates, maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment, and materials.
  • Investigate, resolve, and respond to service requests and complaints from Port Divisions, City departments, tenants, and the public.
  • Inspect sites and review construction documents to ensure compliance with best practices, OSHA/Cal‑OSHA, and environmental standards.
  • Direct staff development through assignment, performance evaluations, training, and development programs.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair projects with Port Divisions, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Perform other related duties as required of Class 7263 Maintenance Manager.
Functional Area

s Streets & Parks Maintenance Manager
  • Manage supervisors overseeing parks, general laborers, asphalt crew, truck drivers, and operating engineers.
  • Oversee street cleaning, graffiti abatement, debris removal, landscaping, tree maintenance, irrigation systems, street repair, and equipment operations.
  • Plan and prioritize maintenance schedules for streets, landscaped areas, and public spaces.
  • Coordinate maintenance support for special events and high‑use waterfront areas.
  • Monitor equipment usage, ensure safe operation, driver training, and compliance with safety regulations.
Utilities Maintenance Manager
  • Manage supervisors responsible for plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and stationary engineer shops.
  • Plan and coordinate maintenance of utility systems: water supply lines, electrical distribution, fire safety, HVAC, and building facilities.
  • Prioritize work orders, estimate labor and materials, and schedule repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and applicable codes.
Metal Crafts Maintenance Manager
  • Manage supervisors for ornamental iron workers, machinists, sheet‑metal workers, and roofers.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate fabrication, installation, and repair of metal structures.
  • Oversee machining, repair of pumps, valves, castings, and mechanical equipment.
  • Supervise sheet‑metal fabrication, roof access ladders, roof and drain installations, waterproofing, and related maintenance.
Pile Driving Maintenance Manager
  • Manage supervisors of pile drivers, divers, and crane mechanics.
  • Plan and oversee construction, maintenance, repair, and demolition of piers, wharves, and substructures.
  • Schedule pile driving operations considering tides, environmental, and operational restrictions.
  • Ensure crew compliance with safety regulations and oversee underwater inspections, welding, and rigging.
  • Supervise maintenance of barge cranes, mobile cranes, and heavy‑lift equipment.
  • Support gangway operations for cruise ship terminals.
Qualifications Experience

Four (4) years of experience supervising skilled craft workers in maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds.

License
