Director of Land Development

Location: San Francisco, CA
Compensation: $185,000 – $235,000 base salary + annual bonus

About the Role

A leading residential home builder is seeking a Director of Land Development to oversee all aspects of land planning, entitlement, and development for new communities throughout the Bay Area. This is a key leadership position responsible for driving projects from early feasibility through construction readiness while working closely with local agencies, consultants, and internal teams.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate potential sites and guide early-stage feasibility and planning analysis
  • Oversee entitlement strategy, timelines, and approval processes with city and county officials
  • Manage budgets, forecasts, and overall project financial performance
  • Lead and coordinate a team of consultants, engineers, and planners to ensure timely and high-quality deliverables
  • Partner with internal departments to ensure smooth handoff from land acquisition through construction
  • Oversee the setup of homeowners associations and completion of related regulatory approvals
Qualifications
  • 8+ years of land development or entitlement management experience, preferably in residential or mixed‑use projects
  • Strong understanding of local jurisdictions, permitting, and community development processes
  • Proven ability to manage consultants, budgets, and project schedules across multiple sites
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with public agencies and private stakeholders
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Construction Management, or a related field
