Join FIFA’s 2026 World Cup program in San Francisco as a Host City Volunteer Manager. This role is part of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ – Canada, Mexico & United States, steering volunteer recruitment, training, and tournament operations for one of the world’s biggest sporting events.

At FIFA World Cup 2026, the goal is to unite the world through an innovative, inclusive sporting event. Volunteers form the heart of every tournament, providing essential support and enhancing the experience for fans, players, and partners. This program will drive social change, foster community pride, and sustain volunteering across Host Cities.

The Position

The Host City Volunteer Manager reports to the Country Senior Manager and will lead volunteer activities for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 and FIFA World Cup 2026. Responsibilities span the complete volunteer journey at the city level—planning, recruitment, training, and delivery—while coordinating with local stakeholders, FIFA departments, and external partners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement local engagement, recruitment, training, and operational delivery plans for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 and FIFA World Cup 2026.
  • Liaise with local stakeholders and host city leads to support program implementation.
  • Collaborate with FIFA departments and external partners to understand volunteer needs and provide resources.
  • Support centralized volunteer projects impacting all tournament volunteers.
  • Lead the operation of the city volunteer centre, including recruitment, training, and on‑tournament periods.
  • Design and deliver comprehensive training programs for volunteers.
  • Utilize the FIFA Volunteer Platform to manage availability, preferences, roles, communication, and scheduling.
  • Plan and execute volunteer appreciation initiatives throughout the tournament.
  • Resolve city‑specific volunteer issues and conflicts promptly.
  • Maintain a volunteer contact centre with accurate information.
  • Analyze volunteer performance data and feedback to identify trends and improvement areas.
  • Implement continuous improvement strategies based on data analysis.
  • Oversee volunteer experience at non‑competition venues and support match‑day operations as needed.
  • Coordinate with functional areas to secure additional volunteer support for specific events.
  • Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and policies governing volunteer management and event operations.
  • Prepare regular reports and presentations for management and stakeholders.
Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.

Experience: Proven experience in events, volunteer management, or project management; local community engagement within a FIFA host city is a plus. Demonstrated ability to create, engage, and foster relationships with local authorities and volunteer groups; meets deadlines; strong oral and written communication; teamwork under pressure; positive attitude; flexible and adaptable.

Languages

US roles – Fluent in English. Spanish proficiency is a plus.

Technology

Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and planning software; experience with an online collaboration tool. Knowledge of Rosterfy (Volunteer Management System) is a plus.

This role has a fixed term, offering the possibility of extension through July 2026 based on performance. Additional phases include selection, training, scheduling, and operations during the tournament.
