About the RESET Center,operated by Connections
Located in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood, the RESET Center provides an alternative destination for individuals who are found to be publicly intoxicated (due to alcohol and/ordrugs) and would otherwise be transported to the emergency department or jail.
In collaboration and partnership with local law enforcement and public health agencies, the RESET Center aims to effectively divert intoxicated individuals away from the criminal justice and/or healthcare systems to improve outcomes, reduce systemic burden, and support connection to needed resources within the community.
What You'll Do:
The
Registered Nurse (RN)provides nursingassessment, monitoring, andprotocol-drivenintervention for adults experiencing acute intoxication within a low-barrier sobering environment. The RNperforms abbreviated nursing triage per standardizedprocedure, whichassessesbehavioral and physical health needs, and documentsin accordance withharm-reduction and trauma-informed best practices. This role ensures safe oversight, supportive care, andprotocol-guided referrals or transfersfor individuals who may otherwise be transported to an emergency hospital or jail.
- Performabbreviated nursingassessments,including vitals, impairment/intoxication levels, and withdrawal risk screening.
- Recognize signs ofmedical or psychiatric emergencies and initiate EMS or ED transfers when clinicallyindicated.
- Provide supportive care, including hydration, nutrition/snack support, wound care, and medication administration per standing ordersfor minor injuries or symptoms.
- Assess andmonitorpatients through the sobering process, noting changes in behavior, cognition, or level of consciousness.
- Offer education, motivational engagement, and compassionate communicationregardingsubstance use, health risks, and harm-reduction strategies.
- Utilize trauma-informed and de-escalation approaches to respond to escalating behaviors.
- Conduct incident debriefs and complete required clinical documentation following escalations or emergency outcomes.
- Collaborate, as appropriate, with
EMS, law enforcement, and emergency department teams as part of alternate destination protocols. - Support center-wide safety and risk mitigation practices across the multidisciplinary team.
- Participate in required onboarding and ongoing clinical training;maintaincompetencies and attend required meetings.
- Perform all other duties as assigned within the scopeof practice.
What You'll Bring:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program
- Unrestricted, active license as a Registered Professional Nurse through the California State Board of Nursing
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Must obtain Overdose Prevention and Narcan Administration training within 30 days of hire
