Overview
Senior Botanist On-Call at ICF – Sacramento, San Francisco & Northern CA
What You Will Do- Conduct small to large-scale field surveys for vegetation mapping, wetland delineation, and rare plants
- Collect and synthesize data in the field
- Maintain close communication with project manager and co-workers
- Work alone or in groups; direct a small to large number of individuals in the field
- Walk on uneven and sometimes steep terrain in a variety of plant communities and landforms. On occasion, excavate using hand tools to a depth of 18 inches. Ability to conduct field surveys wearing a backpack or carrying up to 20 pounds of gear during field surveys.
- BS in Botany, Biology, or Ecology; MS or higher preferred
- 5+ years of experience conducting botanical surveys and wetland delineations
- Must have valid driver’s license and successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check
- MS in Botany, Biology, or Ecology
- California Rapid Assessment Method (CRAM) trained
- Knowledge of special-status plant species and wetland guidance and regulations
- Strong knowledge of California flora and taxonomy
- Experience using dichotomous keys and applying federal, state, and local agency guidelines to identify plant specimens, vegetation communities, and wetland types
- Construction monitoring experience
- Experience managing or leading staff in biological or wetland projects
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities, including ability to identify existing or potential problems and recommend solutions
- Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to be flexible to handle multiple priorities and to work limited overtime as necessary
- Familiarity with GPS mapping technology
