Oncology Veterinary Technician - Mon-Thursday 7:30am-6:00pm

Compensation Range: $30 - $40/hr

$5.50/hr differential for any hours worked between 6pm-6am

the job

Oncology team members work side-by-side with our Veterinary Oncologists treating cancers like osteosarcoma, lymphoma, melanoma, and many more. They are responsible for many aspects of patient care including taking detailed histories, phlebotomy, and IV catheter placement, chemotherapy infusions, and record keeping. The right candidate will have an eye for detail, follow through, and enjoy creating a bond with patients and clients.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality in-patient care for oncology patients, including administering medications (oral, injectable, IV), assisting with treatments and diagnostics, and monitoring hospitalized patients
  • Place IV catheters, perform venipuncture, draw blood, run in-house lab tests, and administer IV fluids
  • Assist with and monitor chemotherapy and IV infusions following hospital safety protocols
  • Support anesthesia and surgical procedures, including patient prep, induction, monitoring, recovery, and cleaning/sterilizing anesthesia and surgical equipment
  • Collect, prepare, and submit laboratory samples; accurately record and report results as directed by the veterinarian
  • Communicate with clients regarding hospitalized patients, including updates, discharge instructions, and follow-up communication
  • Educate clients through medical demonstrations and guidance on at-home care, medications, and chemotherapy safety
  • Maintain calm, efficiency, and professionalism during medical emergencies or patient crises
  • Safely and effectively handle and restrain patients, with special consideration for fragile or painful oncology patients
  • Maintain accurate and thorough medical records and treatment logs
  • Assist with general patient care needs such as cleaning, feeding, and walking patients as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the oncology team
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or eligible for licensure, or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience in specialty medicine or oncology preferred, but not required
  • Strong venipuncture and IV catheter placement skills
  • Knowledge of medication preparation and IV fluid/infusion administration
  • Ability to follow chemotherapy safety protocols and use PPE appropriately
  • Excellent communication and client education skills
  • Ability to remain calm and efficient in fast-paced or high-stress situations
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate medical recordkeeping
  • Compassionate approach to patient care and client support
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a specialty medical team
  • Physical ability to lift, restrain, and safely handle patients
