Job Summary
The Metcalfe Lab in the UCSF Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, based at Zuckerberg San Francisco General and Pride Hall, is seeking a highly motivated Staff Research Associate. The SRA will be part of a research team investigating new tuberculosis (TB) diagnostics and drug‑resistance. Responsibilities include developing a Mycobacterium tuberculosis deletion mutant and its complements to study bedaquiline resistance mutations, and developing efficient methods for lysis, DNA extraction, and amplification of Mycobacteria to create rapid drug susceptibility testing assays.
The salary range for this position is $28.04 - $45.09 per hour.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Placement within the salary range depends on work experience and internal equity. Department DescriptionThe Metcalfe Lab focuses on TB diagnostics and drug resistance, leveraging fundamental biology of Mycobacterium tuberculosis for better treatments.
Required Qualifications- BA/BS in a related science and one or more years of recent, directly related work experience, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position, or equivalent experience/training.
- Experience working in a BSL‑2 laboratory.
- Experience with basic techniques or methods required by the position or an equivalent combination.
- Experience with standard microbiology procedures such as media preparation, culturing, DNA extraction, etc.
- Basic molecular biology techniques including PCR and cloning.
- Experience working in a BSL‑3 laboratory.
- Master’s degree in a related science and experience with the basic techniques or methods required by the position.
- Knowledge of how to handle clinical specimens.
- Experience with small animal work.
