Founding Engineer​/CoFounder

Fig is hiring a Founding Engineer (w/ room to consider co‑founder title) to own the technical direction and build from zero to one for the one trillion dollar U.S. food manufacturing industry. You will design, ship, and scale AI agents that automate sales, order management, and food safety workflows, turning industry pain points into production‑ready systems. This is a ground floor role to define the technical vision, shape the culture, and grow the engineering team at a venture‑backed startup supported by Innovation Endeavors and industry leaders.

• Tell me about a time you built and scaled a product from scratch. What was your specific role and what was the commercial outcome?

• How do you stay updated with the latest tools and developments in AI, especially regarding LLMs and AI agents?

• 5 - 10 years of experience as a full stack software engineer capable of building AI agents, leading teams, and being the technical leader of the company

• Experience building and scaling core products from 0 to 1 (AI based products preferred)
• Previous founding OR early stage startup experience (Pre‑Seed - Series B)
• Strength in higher level AI

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from a Top 30 program

• Has previously built AI agents that are the core product offering of a company (i.e., The Main Bet)
• Strong proficiency in Python, Type Script, React, and Node.js
• Experience with API calls / connectors, large databases, and SQL

• Best‑in‑class communication skills; need to be able to communicate clearly with both technical and non‑technical audiences (including customers)
• Understands commercial implications for technical decisions and the implications for the business
• Experience building and managing teams

• Ambitious leader with aspirations of being the technical head of the company
• Must be able to work in San Francisco 3+ days/week.
