Engineering Manager @ Clay

As a Software Engineering Manager, you will lead and grow a high‑performing engineering team as Clay scales through rapid growth. You'll take ownership of the team's mission and objectives, ensuring the team delivers high‑quality solutions on time to Clay's most pressing challenges. You'll foster an engaged, motivated, and collaborative team culture while supporting the growth and development of each team member.

You’ll work cross‑functionally with product, design, support, and other engineering teams to help scale and improve our product.

What You’ll Do

• Define team purpose and areas of ownership, ensuring goals are well understood and internalized.

• Plan, prioritize, and staff, setting and updating the team roadmap in collaboration with PMs.

• Build and maintain a strong team culture, supporting members in achieving their career goals.

• Recruit, interview, and onboard new talent, ensuring rapid ramp‑up and contribution.

• Lead and contribute to organization‑wide initiatives that enhance engineering excellence and scalability.

• Own outcomes for your team, introducing processes to keep critical work moving smoothly.

What You’ll Bring

• 2+ years of management experience and 6+ years of overall software development experience, with a history of coaching 3+ direct reports in fast‑paced environments.

• Empathetic communication style, prioritizing curiosity over confrontation and ensuring everyone feels heard.

• Strong technical foundation; familiarity with our stack (React, Typescript, Python, Node.js) or the ability to learn new technologies quickly.

• Experience with AWS services (Aurora, Elasticache, ECR, ECS, Lambda, Open Search), Terraform, CI/CD tools (Circle

CI, Netlify), testing frameworks (Playwright), and observability tooling (Cloudwatch, Datadog, Mezmo).

• Track record of building scalable, high‑performance systems focused on customer delight and user experience.
