About the Role
We’re looking for a Staff Frontend Engineer (7+ years of experience, ideally 8+) to help architect, build, and scale the core systems of our platform. You’ll work directly with the founding team to develop complex, UI-heavy applications, shape product direction, and set the engineering culture for our growing San Francisco team.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity, moves quickly with beta-stage products, and has a deep passion for frontend performance, design tools, and real‑time collaboration experiences.
What You’ll Do

Design and develop complex, production‑grade front‑end systems in React + Type Script.
• Collaborate Closely:
Work with design‑first founders and customers to rapidly prototype and refine solutions.
• Optimize & Scale:
Drive frontend performance, scalability, and real‑time collaboration capabilities.
• Integrate:
Build and maintain integrations with developer tools, design platforms, and APIs (REST/Graph
QL).
• Lead by Example:
Take high ownership in setting the technical foundation and engineering culture for the SF team.
Must-Have Experience
• 7+ years of frontend engineering experience (staff‑level preferred; exceptional candidates with fewer years considered).
• Strong React + Type Script expertise.
• Experience with state management (Recoil, Zustand, Jotai, Redux w/ middleware).
• Familiarity with real‑time collaboration tools (Yjs, CRDTs, Web Socket/Socket.io).
• Proven ability in performance optimization (e.g., virtualization, React-Virtualized/Tan Stack Virtual, Web Assembly).
• Exposure to backend fundamentals (Node.js, REST, Graph
QL).
• Background building complex UI‑heavy web applications.
Nice-to-Have Skills
• Experience with SVG/canvas rendering (React-Konva, React-Flow, React Three, D3.js).
• Knowledge of WebRTC for peer‑to‑peer collaboration.
• Dev Ops familiarity (Docker, CI/CD).
• Experience building Figma‑like apps, design tools, or collaborative editors.
• Contributions to open‑source React or frontend libraries.
What We’re Looking For
• Hybrid mindset:
Comfortable working 3 days/week in‑person at our South Park, SF office.
• High ownership:
Self‑starter who doesn’t wait for direction and can set strong technical foundations.
• Strong communicator:
Able to translate customer needs into elegant engineering solutions.
• Startup + big company mix:
Ideal candidates have experience across both.
• Work authorization:
Can work in the US without visa sponsorship.
