Rainbow is a fully digital insurance company focused on small businesses. Founded in early 2022, we have experienced massive growth over the last year—over 3x revenue growth, expanded offerings, and a successful Series A from leading investors in the space.

We develop our own unique insurance products from the ground up, combining innovative solutions with software that automates the process of getting covered and filing claims. In addition, we empower business owners with tools to help them operate with reduced risk. Our insurance service has been live for 2 and a half years, and we are already one of the largest insurers of restaurants in the country, with plans to expand into other insurance niches.

At Rainbow, we are committed to building a world‑class product and engineering culture in the Bay Area. While we trust our team to excel independently, we encourage in‑person collaboration a few days per week to foster team building and a strong culture.

• Build Core Services: Contribute to backend systems that power quoting, underwriting, claims, and policy management—focusing on scalability, maintainability, and resilience.
• Improve Developer Productivity: Build and maintain internal platforms, tooling, and CI/CD pipelines that enable teams to deploy, test, and operate services efficiently.
• Champion Operational Quality: Establish and maintain best practices around observability, monitoring, alerting, and incident response to ensure systems are easy to operate in production.
• Mentor & Guide: Provide technical leadership and mentorship on infrastructure design, reliability, and operational best practices across the engineering team.
• Tackle Systems Complexity: Break down complex distributed systems challenges into clear, maintainable solutions—balancing business needs with long‑term system health.
• Drive Reliability & Availability: Own system performance, uptime, and fault tolerance through resilient architectures, capacity planning, and proactive incident prevention.

• Infrastructure‑Focused Engineer: You’ve built and operated production backend infrastructure, including databases, services, and deployment systems—ideally using AWS or a similar system.

  You understand distributed systems, reliability trade‑offs, and how to design infrastructure that scales safely and predictably.
• Operational Mindset: You care deeply about monitoring, alerting, incident response, and making systems observable and easy to debug.
• Collaborative by Nature: You work closely with backend and frontend engineers to ensure infrastructure supports their use cases.
• Quality‑Oriented: You value automation, documentation, testing, and infrastructure‑as‑code over manual processes.
• Experienced: You bring 5+ years of backend or infrastructure engineering experience, with hands‑on ownership of systems running in production.

• Work Schedule: [required] in office twice a week, Mondays and Thursdays
• Backend: Golang (knowledge of Go is not required)
