Software Engineer, AI Engineer (Applied/Software)
Brighterway builds AI-native claims software and administration for casualty claims. We started in workers' compensation medical-legal review, where our agentic document pipeline sorts, de-duplicates and summarizes some of the most document-heavy files in the industry for national medical-evaluation networks. We are now building the claims platform on top of that foundation: intake across mail, fax, phone and email, bill review, subrogation, reserving signals, a workflow language, and state and federal reporting.
We are backed by Y Combinator and Maverick Ventures. Our customers handle protected health information every day, so we run HIPAA, SOC 2 and ISO 27001 programs. The team is small and technical and sits close to customers. Everyone ships, and everyone talks to the people who use what they ship.
The roleForward Deployed Engineers own the gap between what a customer needs and what the product does today. You will sit with claims teams and medical-evaluation networks, understand how their files actually flow, and then build the integrations, document pipelines and workflow logic that make Brighterway work inside their operation. You will write production code most days and talk to customers most weeks.
Whatyou will do
Lead technical onboarding for new customers: data transfer, document formats, sorting rules, output templates, delivery webhooks.
Build and tune agentic document pipelines for specific customer file types and jurisdictions.
Turn customer sorting and summary specifications into working configuration and code, and close the loop when output quality drifts.
Debug end to end across GCP, serverless functions, LLM pipelines and the web app when a customer file does not come out right.
Feed what you learn in the field back into the core product as reusable features.
3+ years building and shipping software in production, ideally in Python and Type Script.
Comfort working directly with customers who are not engineers, and with ambiguous requirements.
Experience with LLM-based systems, document processing or data pipelines.
Strong debugging instincts across cloud infrastructure and application code.
Willingness to travel occasionally to customer sites.
Prior exposure to workers' compensation, insurance claims, medical records or legal document workflows.
Experience with GCP, Firestore, Cloud Run or similar.
Small team, high trust, direct access to founders and customers.
We ship to production weekly and measure ourselves on customer outcomes.
Competitive salary and meaningful equity. Health, dental and vision coverage. Flexible time off.
