Responsibilities- Under general supervision, perform transportation planning work concerning public transportation, shuttle services, biking and walking, curb/parking management, paratransit, traffic management, commercial ground transportation management, and other transportation modes.
- Prepare, analyze, or evaluate reports, plans, and policies for transportation planning projects and grant requests; utilize technical, social, economic and physical data to forecast future conditions, impacts and trends.
- Design and coordinate preparation of visual materials (graphs, charts, maps, models) to illustrate presentations of transit and transportation projects.
- Review, interpret, and apply legislation and codes related to transportation planning to develop and implement projects.
- Present information to community, business and other groups to explain public transportation and/or other transportation projects.
- Assist in managing transportation projects and in preparing grant proposals and contract documents.
- Interpret and integrate transportation policy in the review of proposed development projects and environmental impact reports.
- Develop and evaluate proposals for planning and coordinate implementation of transportation plans and projects, including transit routes, service and operational changes, shuttle services, and paratransit services.
- Evaluate technical aspects of transportation projects across multiple modes (light rail, trolley, motor coach, cable car, circulator, commuter shuttles, auto traffic, bicycles and pedestrians, paratransit parking).
- Collect and analyze field and other data to prepare and evaluate plans; create and maintain databases of transportation statistics.
- Apply computer-assisted analytical techniques to evaluate or forecast planning data to support transportation planning programs.
- Prepare correspondence in response to public, Commission or agency inquiries.
1. Possession of a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Planning, Transportation, Transportation Engineering, Public Administration or other closely related field.
OR
2. Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; AND two (2) years of transportation planning experience.
Substitution: Additional transportation planning experience beyond the minimum qualifications may be substituted for the baccalaureate degree requirement on a year-for-year basis (30 semester units/45 quarter units equal one (1) year of experience).
