Pay Range: $32.19/Hr - $39.59/Hr based on experience

Position:
Sign Language Interpreter for the Hearing Impaired Immediate Supervisor:
Executive Director of Pupil Personnel Primary Evaluator:
Executive Director of Pupil Personnel or Designee

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate's degree in Sign Language Interpreting required
  • Ohio Department of Education Associate License for Interpreter for the Hearing Impaired
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
  • Help students to achieve their greatest potential by facilitating communication between hearing and deaf/hard of hearing staff and students
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for facilitating communication of instruction and classroom interaction
  • Interprets lectures, discussions, announcements, conversations, meetings, events, and other spoken word situations using American Sign Language or other manual sign system appropriate for the language and the cultural background of deaf or hard of hearing students and staff
  • Be responsible for facilitating notes and gathering other classroom materials for distribution to students in a timely manner.
  • Provide a communication link between the student and all others in the classroom to provide equal access to education using the preferred sign system of the student.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support student's language needs and success
  • Assist students in the development of life skills and appropriate social behaviors
  • Participate in IEP meetings as requested.
  • Ensure safety of students as directed by administrator
  • Act as liaison for District, community, staff, students and parents with tact and diplomacy
  • Provide recommendations for appropriate intervention for qualifying students
  • Communicate and work closely with the regular classroom teachers while developing each students intervention program
  • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information e.g., student records
  • Regularly communicate with teachers and administrators
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Perform other duties as assigned pertaining to this specific position
