Job DescriptionHill International is seeking a Civil Inspector to oversee construction activities ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and safety regulations.
Responsibilities- Inspect each stage of construction up to completion.
- Interpret plans, specifications, and codes and verify contract work complies with applicable governing codes and regulations.
- Monitor construction sites for safety violations.
- Prepare Non-Conformance Reports when work is not performed to approved standards.
- Maintain daily activity logs and reports with photographs, in a manner agreed prior to the work.
- Review or prepare interim progress reports for contractor payments.
- Monitor contractor-testing activities.
- Prepare reports on labor, material, and equipment on site.
- Determine construction conforms to plans and specifications.
- Conduct quality surveillance of specific quality-related activities as necessary.
- Assist in maintaining, supporting, and promoting a safe work environment while complying with Caltrans safety rules, policies, and procedures.
- Provide Construction Safety and Security field services, including Site Safety and Security Reviews for Construction Equipment, Personnel, Work Procedures, and Traffic Control.
- Coordinate preparation of inspection survey reports, cost estimates and maintenance records.
- Ensure timely submittals of reports and records.
- Arrange, coordinate and oversee technical inspections such as electrical, landscaping, soil testing, concrete, asphalt mixes, and reinforcing steel for conformance to specification requirements.
- Coordinate test laboratory activities with onsite Quality Management and Contractor’s Quality Control teams.
- 5+ years of project experience in highway/roadway/utility/transit/bridge and/or rail construction.
- Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering or Construction Management preferred.
- Ability to obtain Cal-OSHA/OSHA 30-hour training certification.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, standards, equipment, quality and safety per State and Federal requirements.
- Strong computing skills including competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, SharePoint).
- Experience using mobile devices, such as iPads, for reporting preferred.
- Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and other contract documents.
- Ability to independently identify potential problems and propose solutions.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Valid California Class C driver’s license.
- Position is on-site in Santa Clara County.
The hourly range for this position is $65.00–$75.00.
