Superintendent, Construction

Location:

San Francisco Bay Area (job sites in South San Francisco, Hayward, and Palo Alto)

Type:
Full-time, exempt | On-site daily (not remote)

Compensation:
Competitive base salary twice-yearly bonus company truck

Our client is a well-established, owner-led commercial general contractor that has served the Bay Area for over 20 years. Their focus is life science, along with ground-up commercial/industrial, tenant improvement, and seismic/structural work. They don’t self-perform; all trade work is subcontracted, so the Superintendent runs the site and leads the subcontractor teams.

The company is financially stable, consistently profitable, and growing deliberately. They’re hiring because substantial new projects are coming, including GMP manufacturing work. The team is small and close-knit, with direct access to ownership and no corporate red tape.

The Superintendent will oversee projects from start through owner move-in and lead all on-site construction activities and personnel, working closely with the Project Manager and leadership team.

• Supervise all on-site construction activities and personnel from start to finish
• Build the overall project schedule and sequence of work; update it every two weeks, forecast issues, and put recovery plans in place when needed
• Coordinate and manage subcontractors, owners, architects, engineers, and municipal agencies
• Schedule inspections, materials, and subcontractors, and maintain quality control throughout the project
• Review budgets with the Project Manager to confirm inclusions and exclusions
• Set up the job site and job office (temporary power, toilets, plan table, conference space, etc.)
• Keep all field construction and contract documents current on site
• Lead job walks with clients and subcontractors and attend job-site meetings
• Promote a safe, clean job site: run weekly safety meetings, submit daily logs, and attend monthly safety meetings
• Drive punch list completion and efficient demobilization

• 7 years as a commercial Superintendent in the Bay Area, with general contractor experience
• Life science, lab, TI, or ground-up commercial experience strongly preferred
• Track record of successful project completion and high client satisfaction
• Strong scheduling skills in Microsoft Project; proficient in Plan Grid, Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Able to read plans, manage subcontractors, and deliver on budget and schedule
• Working knowledge of Cal-OSHA requirements and willingness to enforce site safety
• Current First Aid and CPR certification
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Valid California driver’s license with a clean DMV record

• Able to climb stairs and ladders and move through active construction areas
• Able to occasionally lift up to 75 lbs
• Regular work in outdoor conditions and moderate-to-loud noise environments

• Competitive base salary, based on experience
• Bonuses paid twice a year (mid-year and year-end), consistently paid for 8 years and described as generous
• Company vehicle with maintenance, insurance, and fuel covered
• Laptop, iPad, iPhone, and company credit card
• Medical, dental, life insurance, and long-term disability
• 401(k) with company contribution
• Paid vacation, PTO, and holidays
