The Electrical Engineering Department at San José State University (SJSU) provides a high-quality Electrical Engineering education at undergraduate and graduate levels. The department offers classroom instruction by qualified EE faculty, hands-on experience in industry-sponsored laboratories, and opportunities for internships. The department serves over 400 undergraduate and 300 graduate students.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesLecturers are expected to teach their courses effectively, maintain appropriate office hours, and cooperate with the department in peer-review and course assessment processes. Lecturers should seek guidance from the Department Chair on policies related to grading, textbooks, office hours, curriculum goals, disability accommodations, and academic integrity. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester in the mode listed in the schedule of classes (asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid).
All classes must be organized within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS); all classes, whether online or not, must be anchored in Canvas to ensure faculty-student connection. You will have access to this system prior to the semester start date. Candidates must address the needs of a diverse student population through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
- A Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with at least 5 years of significant and relevant professional experience is required to teach undergraduate-level courses. A PhD or ScD in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a closely related discipline is required to teach graduate-level courses.
- Knowledge of the subject matter of the discipline to which the individual is assigned.
- Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work.
- Applicants should demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population.
Compensation and salary range placement are determined by qualifications and experience. Details on range placement are described in University Policy S21-2.
Anticipated Starting SalaryRank-based ranges are provided through the university salary schedule. Specific ranges will be determined by qualifications and experience at the time of appointment.

Faculty employees must complete CSU-provided training as assigned and required by their role (e.g., preventing discrimination and harassment, gender equity and Title IX, health and safety). The position may be designated as Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Clery Act, and training may be required. Questions regarding CSA designation and training can be directed to the Clery Director university may implement safety measures to protect the core mission and campus safety.

Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in the United States. Offers are conditional and may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information or if information is withheld or falsified. Appointment is subject to budget and enrollment considerations and to the order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between the California State University and the California Faculty Association.
