Position Description
The School of Information Systems & Technology at San José State University is pleased to announce a search for an Assistant Professor of Information Systems. Teaching topics may include traditional Information Systems (IS) courses for the MIS program such as Systems Analysis & Design, Introduction to MIS, and programming, as well as data analytics and visualization and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Faculty are also expected to engage actively in research on IS-related topics, publishing in peer reviewed journals and presenting at conferences, and to support the school, college, and university’s mission through service activities.
SISTech resides in the Lucas College and Graduate School of Business prepare students to excel professionally and contribute to society through the undergraduate MIS concentration within the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major. Our program reflects IS best practices and provides students with the skills and hands-on experience they will need to succeed today and tomorrow. Our location in Silicon Valley provides both students and faculty with unparalleled opportunities to engage with leading technology firms.

Required Qualifications
- A PhD in Management Information Systems, Information Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field, from an appropriately accredited institution
- Applicant must be qualified as a scholarly academic (SA) according to AACSB standards
- Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Priority will be given to candidates who possess one or more of the following:
- Ability to teach a variety of traditional IS courses
- Expertise Python, R, data analytics / visualization, or Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Desire for a highly collegial and cooperative work environment
- Strong teamwork, communication, interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated history of teaching, research, and service excellence
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain ongoing research activity providing valued contributions relevant to the IS academic community, including peer-reviewed journal papers and conference proceedings, etc.
