THE ROLE

We are seeking a seasoned Photonic Systems Engineer with deep expertise and a strong passion for photonic device and system modeling. You have a proven track record of driving simulation‑driven design, performance optimization, and validation of complex photonic components and systems. You are meticulous about optical performance, power efficiency, signal integrity, and reliability, while balancing schedule commitments and cost constraints. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams to support in‑house hardware bring‑up, troubleshoot complex issues, and validate photonic components from concept through production.

THE

PERSON

You have excellent communication and presentation skills, demonstrated through technical publications, presentations, trainings, executive briefings, etc. You are highly adept at collaboration among top‑thinkers and engineers alike, ready to mentor and guide, and help to elevate the knowledge and skills of the team around you.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Participate in photonic device and system modeling efforts, driving simulation‑based architecture, design decisions, and performance optimization.
  • Define and own photonic system architecture trade‑offs with a strong focus on power, performance, reliability, and cost.
  • Develop, validate, and maintain multi‑physics models (optical, electrical, thermal) to predict system behavior across operating conditions and process variations.
  • Drive correlation between simulation results and lab measurements, using data to refine models and guide design improvements.
  • Review, assess, and influence test plans, methodologies, and results to ensure technical accuracy, coverage, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Support in‑house hardware bring‑up by guiding test strategies, troubleshooting complex photonic issues, and accelerating root‑cause analysis.
  • Collaborate across design, packaging, electronics, firmware, manufacturing, and product teams to ensure successful system integration.
  • Mentor and technically guide engineers in photonic modeling, simulation best practices, and system‑level thinking
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • Extensive experience in photonic device and system modeling, simulation, and performance optimization in a production or advanced R&D environment.
  • Hands‑on expertise with industry‑standard photonic simulation tools (e.g., Lumerical, VPIphotonics, Opti System, COMSOL, or equivalent).
  • Proficiency in Python and/or Julia for building custom simulation frameworks, numerical analysis, data processing, and model automation.
  • Strong background in multi‑physics modeling, including optical, electrical, and thermal interactions.
  • Experience correlating simulation results with laboratory measurements and silicon or module‑level test data.
  • Demonstrated success supporting hardware bring‑up, debugging complex photonic systems, and resolving cross‑domain issues.
  • Experience developing test plans, test methodologies, and qualification data; ability to influence external partners on technical strategy.
  • Familiarity with photonic integration technologies such as silicon photonics, III–V integration, packaging, and optical interconnects.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS
  • PhD or Master’s degree in related discipline preferred.
