We work directly with 20+ municipalities and 50+ jurisdictions, operate highly regulated facilities in 10+ locations, and have 1,000+ employees.
The Sorter will support one or more facilities by sorting a variety of material—including recyclables and trash—to minimize contamination and maintain high recyclable rates. The role is based at 653 Charles St., San Jose, and may require limited job‑related travel.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures.
- Extract at least 48 items per minute to maximize recycling potential.
- Follow directions, daily procedures, and protocols.
- Work near others while sorting material from either side of the conveyor belt to increase productivity.
- Stand and collect material for extended periods in front of a conveyor belt, using both hands with good manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination.
- Distinguish between commodities with ease to separate material properly.
- Bring reliable transportation, punctuality, and dependability to minimize operational disruptions.
- Collaborate effectively as part of a team.
- Proficiency in English and/or Spanish.
- Handle material weighing up to 50 lbs to prevent accumulation on the sort line.
- Constantly push, pull, reach, bend, and grasp material to avoid mis‑placement.
- Navigate stairs to reach certain workstations.
Fast‑paced environment exposing workers to loud noises, heat, cold, sharp objects, and odors. Workers must wear hard hats, safety glasses, work boots, safety vests, and gloves at all times. Shifts vary from 4‑12 hours depending on daily tonnage, with overtime required.
