Job Purpose: The Shipping and Receiving Specialist is responsible for receiving, storing, and shipping inventory for our company. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in shipping and receiving, including experience with Oracle. This is a hands‑on position and the candidate must be able to work effectively under strict time constraints in a dynamic environment.
- Responsible for shipping (domestic/international) and receiving functions conducted timely and accurately.
- Ensures materials are received from proper vendors, placed in proper inventory locations, and finished goods are packaged according to specifications and shipped in a timely manner.
- Reviews receipt of all materials to ensure purchase orders are open and the quality of materials received is correct (including materials certificates, First Article Inspection documents, etc.).
- Ensures packing slips and material certifications documents are validated, filled, and filed accurately.
- Examines contents and compares with shipping request to verify accuracy of outgoing shipments.
- Determines shipping method for material using knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
- Contacts carrier representatives to make arrangements and issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials.
- Creates and ensures Commercial Invoices required for all cross‑border shipments are filled and filed accurately.
- Unpacks and checks goods received against purchase orders or invoices, maintains records of received goods, and rejects unsatisfactory items.
- Examines stock and distributes materials in inventory and on manufacturing lines.
- Follows all company and facility policies including quality, safety, conduct, and attendance.
- Picks orders for shipping along with support staff.
- Ensures the security, accuracy, and accountability of materials and goods with inventory control.
- Measures, weighs, and records shipment data such as weight and dimension.
- Establishes and modifies operational methods and procedures.
- Responsible for shipping and receiving key process indicators.
- Maintains documentation to reflect the effectiveness and efficiency of department activities.
- Performs the physical or administrative tasks involved in receiving, storing, and distributing of metals and purchased parts; assists with and performs other material handling duties.
- Lifts heavy items and operates a forklift, standing‑up rider, or hand pallet jack.
- Receives shipments and oversees and participates in inspections.
- Coordinates availability of inventory with the production team based on what is on order.
- Reports and documents any shipment, freight damages, or discrepancies for investigation and record‑keeping.
- Assists with inventory counts of finished goods as needed.
- Conducts inventory counts.
- Loads/unloads materials from/to trucks.
- Palettizes and prepares material, creates packaging if needed.
- Maintains records such as inbound and outbound logs and prepares reports related to assigned activities.
- Works overtime when necessary.
- Proactively practices safety warehouse rules, leads and participates in 5S and warehouse continuous improvement activities, and completes all required training promptly.
- Performs other shipping, receiving, and inventory control management duties as required.
- 4+ years of experience in shipping/receiving or warehouse operations.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Data entry experience.
- Oracle experience is a plus.
- Experience with forklift and pallet jack.
- Working knowledge of domestic and international shipping documentation.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow through on shipping issues.
- Team‑oriented with a strong sense of urgency for deliverables.
- Flexible within a rapidly changing, dynamic work environment.
- Working knowledge of Fed Ex online software.
- General understanding of warehouse practices.
- Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Participation in 5S, continuous improvement, and safety activities.
Salary Range (annual): $50,000 - $60,300 (approximately $24 - $28.99 hourly)
