Lead Medication Nurse – Bilingual (English / Spanish)

Basic Function
  • The Socorro Lead Medication Nurse collaborates with the Director of Nursing to support and oversee Medication Nurses, Medication Coordinators, and Residential Support Technicians. Duties include monitoring self‑administration of medications by residential clients, ensuring compliance, completing documentation, and coordinating with the Support Technician, Social Services, and Nursing departments about clients’ health status.
Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care and assist in pre‑admission, admission, treatment, and discharge processes.
  • Offer medication training and oversight to Medication Nurses, Coordinators, and Support Technicians.
  • Receive prescribing clinician orders and transcribe them into client charts.
  • Observe clients’ self‑administration of medications and adherence to prescribed orders.
  • Document medication observations in the EHR in accordance with CRI‑Help documentation timeliness standards.
  • Assess for medication reactions and adherence.
  • Assist the Nurse Practitioner in clearing clients to volunteer in the kitchen.
  • Clear clients for bedrest, follow up daily as needed for medical care.
  • Review residential medication logs, correct errors, and provide supervisory guidance.
  • Measure vital signs and record results.
  • Complete necessary client documentation, logs, maintenance reports, and incident reports.
  • Complete Care Coordination documentation for all instances of care coordination.
  • Maintain a minimum of 65% DMC billing productivity per month.
  • Be on‑call after hours for questions from Medication Nurses, Coordinators, and Support Technicians.
  • Conduct performance reviews for Medication Nurses and Coordinators.
  • Prepare and maintain the monthly schedule for Medication Nurses and Coordinators.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
Skills / Knowledge
  • Advanced understanding of substance use and psychological disorders.
  • Knowledge of medication protocols and related care, including symptoms and medications.
  • Ability to conduct CIWA and COWS assessments.
  • Accurate record‑keeping and report preparation.
  • Proper medication management.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Proficiency in required assessments.
  • Navigation of CRI‑Help’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Advanced knowledge of HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
  • Familiarity with medical/psychiatric problems common to clients with substance use disorders.
  • Effective communication with clients, treatment team, and outside entities.
  • In‑depth knowledge of CARF, DHCS Alcohol and/or Other Drug Certification Standards, and Drug Medi‑Cal regulations.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Education / Training
  • Preferred:
    Licensed Registered Nurse with the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Minimum:
    Current registration with California Board of Vocational Nursing.
  • Active classroom CPR and First Aid Certification or BLS Certification.
Experience
  • Experience working in a Substance Use Disorder (SUD) facility.
  • Two or more years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in substance abuse treatment.
  • Two or more years of supervisory experience.
Special Conditions
  • Willingness to undergo random drug screenings.
Working Conditions
  • Occasional stair use.
  • Frequent standing and/or sitting for 6–8 hours.
  • Frequent crouching below the waist and/or above the shoulders.
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasional pushing and/or pulling objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasional work at various locations across Los Angeles County.
