- Starting IVs
- Patient and family education and support
Description:
The Infusion RN will work in a moderately paced clinic focused on oncology with minimal hematology. This role involves primarily treating solid tumors. The infusion nurse will work with an infusion ratio of 1-5 based on patient acuity. The unit features 18 chairs and 2 rooms. Typical chemotherapy regimens last between 5-6 hours and usually start in the morning. A break is generally scheduled around 2 PM.
There will be a charge nurse available to assist with breaks. The position requires completing homework and prep work for the next day. Technological tools include Alaris pumps and IV finders. Provider support will be available from interpretation services, pharmacy, phlebotomy, social services, and unit secretaries. The shifts are during the day and do not require weekends, on-call, or floating.
Documentation will be performed using an electronic system. Candidates must demonstrate experience in the infusion center and familiarity with chemotherapy administration. Preferred skills include the ability to recognize and manage side effects of treatment. Knowledge of various types of cancer will be beneficial. Clinical procedures relevant to the role include central line care and management, medication administration, and managing side effects.
The infusion nurse will also be responsible for patient and family education and providing emotional support.
