Senior Engineer, Firmware

Overview

The Technology Enabling Development Lab (TED) focuses on host interface firmware that sits at the intersection of system software and flash management firmware. This technology drives Samsung’s breakthrough V‑NAND and enables customers to build performance‑oriented, enterprise‑class applications such as hyper‑scale data centers, big data processing, and virtualized storage arrays.

Daily onsite presence at Samsung’s San Jose, CA office (U.S. headquarters).

• NVMe or SAS SSD firmware development.
• Analyze, debug, and resolve firmware issues observed at domestic and international customer sites as well as at local and overseas development centers.
• Triage and root‑cause system, driver, and device interoperability issues at customer sites.
• OEM Spec gap analysis, firmware customization/feature development; collaborate with other engineering teams to analyze debug information and implement and deploy firmware patches.
• Execute business travel to domestic and international customer sites and overseas development centers for extended periods (up to multiple weeks).
• Assist customers by running or inspecting their tests at onsite locations.

• BS in Computer/Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Computer Science with 5 years of relevant experience, or MS with 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Strong experience in C/C++ programming for embedded systems.
• Strong experience with UART/JTAG/ICE debuggers and protocol analyzers.
• Familiarity with at least one storage protocol such as SAS, SATA, SCSI, FC, NVMe or PCIe.
• Hands‑on experience with firmware debugging and protocol analysis.

The pay range for this role is $134,400—$201,600 USD, with additional incentive opportunities based on individual and company performance.
