Yu Ming Charter School is a non-profit, tuition-free network of public schools located in Oakland and San Leandro and open to all residents of California. POSITION OVERVIEW

English Language Development (ELD) Instructors work under the guidance of School Administrators and the Director of Academics, in close collaboration with English Literacy Teachers, to support the academic growth of English Language Learners (ELLs). ELD Instructors are responsible for delivering targeted English language instruction to small groups of students who are acquiring English as a second or additional language. They play a key role in promoting student achievement by providing high-quality, differentiated instruction that meets the diverse linguistic needs of learners.

In addition to classroom instruction, ELD Instructors support students' language development by offering personalized guidance and academic support. They are also responsible for administering the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) and using assessment data to inform instruction and monitor student progress.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Use Amplify CKLA Language Studio curriculum to teach designated ELD lessons to small groups of students in grades K-2.
  • Administer the Initial and Summative English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) in compliance with state and district guidelines.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, English Literacy staff, and school leadership regularly to support the integration of language development across content areas.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that are culturally responsive, linguistically appropriate, and tailored to students’ individual proficiency levels.
