Position Summary

To provide community education, outreach, case management and counseling for battered women and their children, including acquiring and accessing a variety of resources. Provides domestic violence education through support groups, workshops and agency‑wide training, establishing collaborative relationships through outreach efforts that help prevent domestic abuse. Coordinates the volunteer program with volunteers for our Safe House and for support group facilitation. Participates in the program service delivery team, ensuring that services are safe, high quality, consistent with the agency’s mission, well‑coordinated, client‑centered and meet contractual obligations.

Duties
  • Provide minimal case management, advocacy, housing navigation and counseling services to singles and families that include drop‑ins and clients staying at the hotel.
  • Develop comprehensive service plans, monitor client progress and service delivery.
  • Assess and provide referrals to clients to mainstream resources and support programs in the community when appropriate and act as an advocate to help clients successfully access these resources. Services may include life skills, employment, shelter, housing, mental health, childcare, transportation and education programs.
  • Conduct support groups, workshops and agency‑wide training.
  • Coordinate volunteer program for the DV Department.
  • Assist in ensuring services are coordinated, client‑centered and consistent with the agency’s mission.
  • Assist in preparation of program reports and proposals.
  • Organize and co‑facilitate 40‑hour Domestic Violence training for staff and volunteers.
  • Provide technical assistance and training on domestic violence to community‑based organizations, including providing education to their clients if needed.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with housing programs, local hospitals, law enforcement, government agencies and recovery service providers.
  • Represent the agency at community meetings and local DV Collaboratives.
  • Assist in the implementation of Domestic Violence Awareness activities.
  • Collaborate with DV team members to build and support parent/children’s programming.
  • Act as back‑up to the DV Services Team to ensure services to clients and families are provided in a collaborative manner.
  • Participate in on‑call support at our Domestic Violence Safe House.
  • Other duties as assigned to facilitate the smooth responsive and empowering functioning of the domestic violence outreach services provided by the agency.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Skill Required
  • Two years of case management experience, preferably with women and children.
  • Experience and knowledge of domestic violence, homelessness, mental health, substance abuse, and child abuse prevention and empowerment of women and children.
  • Certified Domestic Violence Counselor required.
  • Bilingual/bicultural candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience working with immigrant communities is a plus.
  • Ability to interact in a professional, genuine, responsible, and respectful manner with a diverse population of women and children. Must maintain a warm and supportive demeanor with all clients and callers and withhold personal opinions and judgments while providing services.
  • Ability and desire to work as a member of a collaborative service team as well as have the ability to exercise independent judgment, be dependable and take initiative.
  • Reliable, resourceful, flexible with self‑initiative.
  • Knowledge of Alameda County resources for homeless and underserved populations.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required, including group facilitation experience.
