Cal Poly (California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo) invites applications for a full‑time, academic‑year tenure‑track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning Fall 2026. Cal Poly upholds a “Learn by Doing” philosophy and emphasizes teacher‑scholarship. The successful candidate should demonstrate strong teaching, curriculum development, and scholarship. Faculty are expected to maintain an externally funded research program that involves undergraduate and graduate students and to serve the university through advising, curriculum development, and governance.
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate and graduate structural engineering courses and laboratories.
- Supervise undergraduate and graduate research.
- Develop and maintain externally funded research.
- Engage in service activities, including student advising, curriculum development, and shared governance.
- Earned Ph.D. in civil, structural, architectural engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and effective communication.
- Ability to develop an externally funded research program involving students and key stakeholders.
- Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
- Experience with laboratory‑based instruction.
- Industry experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching and research.
- Experience working with diverse populations and fostering an inclusive environment.
The holder is required to be a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and comply with CSU Executive Order 1083. Background checks are required before appointment.
