The Kinesiology and Public Health Department in the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo seeks an Assistant (or higher) Professor‑rank faculty to join the Kinesiology program. The appointment begins August 17, 2026 and focuses on teaching and research in Physical Activity in Special Populations.
Teaching ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will primarily teach upper‑division core courses in the Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, including
- Physical Activity and Aging
- Adapted Physical Activity
- Physical Activity and Public Health
- At least one course in Research Methods, Athletic Training, or Introduction to Kinesiology.
In addition, the faculty member will provide graduate teaching assistance and undergraduate course design.
Preferred research areas include, but are not limited to:
- Physical activity and health promotion for people with disabilities
- Exercise prescription for clinical populations (e.g., chronic conditions, mental health disorders, rehabilitation settings)
- Adaptive physical activity for youth with developmental disabilities
- Physical activity interventions for aging populations
- Inclusive fitness and community‑based exercise programs
- Accessibility and participation in sport and recreation
- Cardiometabolic and/or mental health in individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities
Research projects should be systematic, publishable, and supported by external funding.
Appointment is expected at Assistant Professor rank initially, with higher ranks considered. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
- Assistant Professor rank: $97,788 – $107,628
- Associate Professor rank: $112,500 – $118,524
- Doctoral degree in Kinesiology or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience and commitment to student‑centered learning and teaching.
- Evidence of high‑quality teaching and research with students.
- Evidence of scholarly productivity.
- Evidence of promoting the well‑being and advancement of students, colleagues, and the department.
- Ability to work with a diverse population fostering a respectful, collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
- Experience working with undergraduate students and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
- Experience and commitment to excellence in teaching kinesiology at the university level (face‑to‑face, hybrid, and online).
- Expertise in research or creative scholarly activities in a field compatible with or broadening the department’s research activities.
- Track record of external funding support for research and creative scholarly activities.
- Experience supervising undergraduate student research.
