Position: Part-Time Lecturer Pool - Clinical Nutrition Hospital Preceptor (AY 25/26)

Overview

Part-Time Lecturer Pool - Clinical Nutrition Hospital Preceptor (AY 25/26). The Food Science and Nutrition Department within the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at Cal Poly is seeking applications for a pool of part-time lecturers to precept dietetic interns during their clinical rotations at a partner hospital. This position requires working closely with the dietetic internship administrative team and local hospital staff to plan and implement competency-based experiences and assignments to meet the Standards for Dietetic Internships as set forth by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).

Positions available as determined by need during the 2025-26 academic year. Teaching assignments could include FSN 551, 552, and 553, Medical Nutrition Therapy Practicum I, II, and III, respectively.

Appointments from the part-time pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants must be available on very short notice.

Responsibilities

Precept dietetic interns during clinical rotations, plan and implement competency-based experiences and assignments, and collaborate with the internship administrative team and hospital staff to meet ACEND standards. Coordinate with course instructors for assignments in FSN 551, 552, and 553 (Medical Nutrition Therapy Practicum I–III) as needed.

Required Qualifications
  • An earned bachelor’s degree in nutrition, dietetics, or closely related field with a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience OR an earned master’s degree in nutrition, dietetics, or closely related field with a minimum of 1 year of clinical experience.
  • RD/RDN credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and maintain credential during appointment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality, student-centered learning, precepting, or teaching, and ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary settings.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral English language.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, inclusive environment; relevant work experience and professional capabilities are desirable.
Special Conditions

The position is a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and requires compliance with CSU Executive Order 1083. A background check is required after a conditional offer. Cal Poly will not sponsor an H-1B for this position. Sensitive positions may require additional background checks as mandated by law.

The department offers Nutrition and Food Science majors, a post-graduate Dietetic Internship, MS programs in Nutrition, and MS/Blended programs in Agriculture with a Food Science specialization. The department focuses on hands-on learning and reflects Cal Poly’s learn-by-doing philosophy.
