Appointments from the part‑time pool are temporary and may be made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants must be available on very short notice.
The Industrial Technology, Packaging, and Entrepreneurship Area in the Orfalea College of Business at Cal Poly is creating a pool of eligible part‑time lecturers and lab instructors for possible teaching assignments during the Summer, Fall, Winter, and/or Spring Quarters of the 2025‑2026 academic year. Teaching areas include:
- packaging design
- packaging polymers and processing
- packaging machinery and processes
- packaging sustainability
- instrumental analysis of packaging polymers
- packaging quality assessment
- packaging laws and regulations
- healthcare packaging
- packaging performance testing
- fiber‑based packaging
- packaging development
Assignments will be contingent upon budget and enrollments.
Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
MS, MBA, or PhD in Packaging, Industrial Technology, Design, Engineering, or related discipline. Must demonstrate a strong teaching potential and commitment to maintaining currency in the professional field.
