Details

Appointments from the part-time pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants must be available on very short notice. The Theatre and Dance Department invites applications for a pool of part-time lecturers in Theatre for the  academic year. Positions are available as determined by need and funding during the Fall, Winter, and/or Spring quarters, which begin September 11, 2025.

Teaching assignments are contingent upon budget and enrollments. Assignments may include teaching courses such as:
Introduction to Theatre, Theatre History, Improvised Narratives, American Theatre and/or Topics in Diversity on the American Stage, World Drama, Rehearsal and Performance, Music Direction and Vocal Coaching, Stage Management, Production Management, Sound Design and Engineering, and Technologies in Design and Technical Production.

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:

  • Lecturer A: $5,507-$6,677
  • Lecturer B: $6,221-$13,224
  • Lecturer C: $6,825-$14,523
  • Lecturer D: $8,593-$15,221

Required Qualifications

Theatre Arts related Bachelor's degree and/or professional equivalent experience is a minimum requirement for teaching activity or lab sections. For lecture classes, candidates must have at least a Master's degree in theatre-related studies (e.g., MA, MFA) and/or lifetime equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to those with university-level teaching experience. Ph.D. in Theatre Arts or Performance Studies is preferred for lecture and seminar sections.

About the Department

The Theatre and Dance Department is part of the College of Liberal Arts and serves majors in Theatre and minors in Dance, along with students from other disciplines.
