Appointments from the part-time pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants must be available on very short notice. ISLA at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California seeks applications for a pool of part-time lecturers. Positions are available as determined by need and funding during the Fall, Winter, and/or Spring quarters of the academic year, which begins September 11, 2025.
Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications, experience, and time base. ISLA offers classes in a wide variety of subjects. Possible courses include:
Introduction to Interdisciplinary Studies;
Introduction to Science, Technology & Society;
Introduction to Media Art & Technologies;
Values & Technology;
Topics and Issues in Values, Media and Culture;
Media Art & Technologies:
Storytelling;
Media Art & Technologies:
Cinematic Processes; and Interdisciplinary Research Methods.
Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
- Lecturer A: $5,507-$6,677
- Lecturer B: $6,221-$13,224
- Lecturer C: $6,825-$14,523
- Lecturer D: $8,593-$15,221

Required QualificationsMaster’s degree in a relevant liberal arts or related discipline and previous college-level teaching experience are required to teach all courses.
Preferred QualificationsPh.D. or terminal degree preferred.
Special ConditionsAll CSU employees are designated "mandated reporters" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act. A background check must be completed satisfactorily before start. Sensitive positions may require additional review. CSU Out-of-State Employment Policy restricts CSU employees to work within California.
About the DepartmentInterdisciplinary Studies in the Liberal Arts (ISLA) offers interdisciplinary classes to support a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies and several interdisciplinary minors, with courses that satisfy university general education and breadth requirements.
