Overview
Instructional Faculty - Temporary/Lecturer 1, Physics Department, Bailey College of Science and Mathematics, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. This is a pool for part-time lecturers from the local geographic area, with positions determined by need during Fall, Winter, and/or Spring quarters of the 2025-26 academic year. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications, experience and time base. Appointments from the part-time pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term.

ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include teaching undergraduate lecture and/or laboratory classes in Astronomy, Geology, Physics and Physical Science.
QualificationsRequired qualifications
- Master's degree in Physics, Geology or a related field is required.
- A teaching credential with two years of teaching experience may be substituted for the required degree.
Preferred qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Physics, Geology or a related field.
Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before start. Cal Poly cannot deny an applicant a position solely due to a criminal conviction history until an individualized assessment is performed. Cal Poly will not sponsor an H-1B for this position. The position is a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and requires compliance with CSU Executive Order 1083.
Sensitive positions may require background checks beyond legal requirements. Cal Poly is smoke and tobacco-free. Out-of-state employment is prohibited for CSU work outside California.
The Physics Department has approximately 50 faculty and offers Bachelor Degrees in Physics with about 200 majors, and courses in astronomy, geology, geophysics, and oceanography.
