part-time lecturer pool - soil science (ay 25/26)
the natural resources management & environmental sciences department in the college of agriculture, food and environmental sciences at california polytechnic state university is seeking applications for a pool of part-time lecturer positions for the academic year as determined by need. Duties include teaching undergraduate introductory soil science, and other soil science lectures, activities and labs as assigned. Positions are contingent upon funding.
appointments from the part-time pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants must be available on very short notice.
responsibilities- teach undergraduate introductory soil science and other soil science lectures, activities and labs as assigned.
- initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the lecturer a or b rank. As of july 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
- lecturer a: $5,507-$6,677
- lecturer b: $6,221-$13,224
- lecturer c: $6,825-$14,523
- lecturer d: $8,593-$15,211
- bachelor's degree in soil science or closely related field required.
- demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching, as well as the ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings.
- ms or ph.d. In soil science preferred. Previous soil science teaching experience desired.
- preference will be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment. Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and those who bring professional capabilities.
the person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the california child abuse and neglect reporting act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in csu executive order 1083 as a condition of employment. Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with cal poly, san luis obispo.

the natural resources management and environmental sciences department consists of three b.s. Degrees in environmental earth and soil sciences, environmental management and protection, forestry and natural resources. Students may also pursue an m.s. Degree in environmental sciences and management. The department has access to extensive facilities and programs including swanton pacific ranch.
