Nestled on the Central California Coast, Adventist Health Sierra Vista has been providing care to our community since 1959. Our 162‑bed acute care facility includes a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a county‑designated trauma center.

The Labor and Delivery Nurse is responsible for the planning and provision of nursing care to patients and their families during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods, including emergency situations and circulating for C‑Sections. Supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel commensurate with their scope of practice. This position is represented by CNA.

• Associate Degree (A.S.) or equivalent:

• Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS‑BLS OR RQI‑BLS) certification:

• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification:

• Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course:
  Required

• Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) or Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) certification:
  Required

• Performs physical and psychosocial assessment of patients, demonstrating knowledge and consideration of age, cultural differences, and support for fetal demise; initiates a multidisciplinary, goal‑oriented care plan in collaboration with the health‑care team.
• Demonstrates appropriate clinical judgment in managing perinatal emergencies, including but not limited to crash C‑section, precipitous delivery, and shoulder dystocia.
• Assesses fetal and maternal wellbeing, amniotic fluid status, vaginal bleeding, and abnormalities; manages pain control and supports alternative pain control when appropriate.
• Assists with epidural catheter placement, monitors fetal and maternal status during placement and after medication administration; educates patients and families throughout perinatal and postpartum periods using age‑appropriate, culturally appropriate methods.
• Completes legible, accurate, and timely documentation of all nursing care, including evaluation of patients’ response to medications, treatments, and procedures; consistently performs unit‑specific safety and quality control checks (e.g., shift and 24‑hr MD order checks, T/O/V O read‑back, crash cart checks, urine QC).
• Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
