Academic Advisor I – Texas State University
Position:
Academic Advisor I – Provide quality academic advising to undergraduate students at Texas State University.
- Resume and cover letter.
- Three professional references.
- Copy of transcript showing completion of bachelor’s degree.
- Provide accurate and consistent information about major and degree requirements.
- Explain complex institutional policies and procedures.
- Plan and prepare for advising sessions.
- Engage with students in-person, virtually, and over the phone.
- Help students define realistic educational and career goals.
- Maintain confidential student records through accurate documentation.
- Review graduation applications and certify eligibility for graduation.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with academic units and partners.
- Advocate for solutions with fairness and integrity.
- Refer students to appropriate resources.
- Participate in recruitment and retention efforts.
- Recommend continuous improvement of advising services.
- Commit to ongoing professional development.
- Assist with related campus accreditation processes.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Documented work experience with college students or children/adolescents in a professional or volunteer capacity.
- Demonstrated skill using Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Attention to detail demonstrated in cover letter and application.
- Master’s degree.
- Professional academic advising experience in higher education.
- Professional knowledge of Texas State academic policies and procedures.
- Experience using Degree Works audit software.
- Knowledge of NACADA core competencies, core values and theories of academic advising.
- This position requires occasional work outside of normal business days, including evenings and weekends.
