Assists the classroom teacher in providing quality, developmentally appropriate educational opportunities that meet the individual needs of each child.

- Assist in classroom setup, instruction, parent meetings, active supervision, and documentation in cooperation with teachers.
- Know and adhere to all policies and procedures, Head Start Program Performance Standards, and child‑care licensing standards.
- Assist with preparation of instructional materials and cleanup after lessons.
- Follow safety guidelines when lifting equipment, picking up children, and maintaining age‑appropriate equipment.
- Report to the Person in Charge (PIC) in the absence of the Site Supervisor.
- Report all suspected child abuse to the Child Abuse Hotline at 1‑800‑252‑5400 and in accordance with agency policy.
- Arrive on time and work designated hours unless otherwise instructed by supervisor.
- Flexibly accommodate schedule and location changes as needed for program requirements.
- Provide appropriate care for children including diapering/toileting procedures and maintaining a sanitized classroom (hand washing, changing bedding, sanitizing toys, equipment, and surfaces).
- Assist with recruitment of parents and staff.
- Ensure that all adult‑child interactions are positive, appropriate, and respectful according to Head Start Program Guidance and Discipline Policies and Standards of Conduct, Conscious Discipline, and CLASS approach.
- Submit time sheets accurately and on time.
- Submit mileage accurately and on time.
- Attend all staff and other meetings as assigned.
- Manage time effectively.
- Be a positive role model.
- Maintain confidentiality of records, client services, and staff.
- Adhere to agency best practices regarding time and leave.
- Dress appropriately for the work environment.
- Maintain professionalism.
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and clean environment.

- Preferred:
- Six months’ experience in child development or early childhood education setting.
- Ability to communicate in both Spanish and English.
- Required:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to lift 25–30 lbs.
- Ability to walk, squat/kneel, sit on floor, see, hear, and speak with children to ensure health and safety.
- At least 18 years old.
- Criminal background check required at the agency’s expense.
- Fingerprinting required at the employee’s expense.
- Valid Texas driver’s license or state reliable transportation.
- Vehicle insurance (personal injury and liability).
- Initial health exam required at the agency’s expense.
- Initial and annual TB screening at the agency’s expense.
