Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop a positive, productive relationship with all parents through ongoing positive communication.
  • Assist in classroom setup, instruction, parent meetings, active supervision, and documentation in cooperation with teachers.
  • Know and adhere to all policies and procedures, Head Start Program Performance Standards, and child‑care licensing standards.
  • Assist with preparation of instructional materials and cleanup after lessons.
  • Follow safety guidelines when lifting equipment, picking up children, and maintaining age‑appropriate equipment.
  • Report to the Person in Charge (PIC) in the absence of the Site Supervisor.
  • Report all suspected child abuse to the Child Abuse Hotline at 1‑800‑252‑5400 and in accordance with agency policy.
  • Arrive on time and work designated hours unless otherwise instructed by supervisor.
  • Flexibly accommodate schedule and location changes as needed for program requirements.
  • Provide appropriate care for children including diapering/toileting procedures and maintaining a sanitized classroom (hand washing, changing bedding, sanitizing toys, equipment, and surfaces).
  • Assist with recruitment of parents and staff.
  • Ensure that all adult‑child interactions are positive, appropriate, and respectful according to Head Start Program Guidance and Discipline Policies and Standards of Conduct, Conscious Discipline, and CLASS approach.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Preferred:
    • Six months’ experience in child development or early childhood education setting.
    • Ability to communicate in both Spanish and English.
  • Required:
    • High School Diploma or GED.
    • Basic computer skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift 25–30 lbs.
  • Ability to walk, squat/kneel, sit on floor, see, hear, and speak with children to ensure health and safety.
Other Requirements
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Criminal background check required at the agency’s expense.
  • Fingerprinting required at the employee’s expense.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license or state  reliable transportation.
  • Vehicle insurance (personal injury and liability).
  • Initial health exam required at the agency’s expense.
  • Initial and annual TB screening at the agency’s expense.
