Required knowledge, skills & abilities:
- Experience planning and coordinating post-secondary learning assistance activities and programs for university students.
- Experience in personnel supervision and evaluation.
- Experience working directly with various stakeholders such as learners, subject matter experts, faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
- Skilled in effective time management and prioritization while adhering to time action plans.
- Demonstrated knowledge of field of developmental education, learning strategies, and study skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Earned graduate degree in appropriate field including Adult Education, Developmental Education, Educational Leadership, Educational Psychology, Student Affairs, Professional Counseling, etc. from an accredited institution.
- 2-5 years of professional, full-time employment in learning or tutoring center which includes personnel supervision and evaluation.
- Familiarity with International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) application and renewal processes and standards as is provided by the College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA).
- Experience working with special populations including student athletes and/or military-connected students.
- Direct experience with budget oversight and payroll management
- Teaching experience in post-secondary environment.
- Tutoring experience in post-secondary environment.
- Coursework and/or experience with research
- Strong written communication skills.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the management and supervision of SLAC’s tutoring services, working with a student staff of approximately 70 each semester in a top-quality tutoring lab. The Tutorial Services Coordinator functions as part of the learning center’s professional staff team by maintaining a productive and collaborative learning environment that involves assisting students, faculty, and staff with various academic success issues, participating in the creation, implementation, and evaluation of student training programs, policies, and procedures, and assessing all facets of tutoring impact.
Job Duties:- Recruit, screen, test, interview, and hire 60-70 academic tutors and STUDY or desk assistants per academic year. Identify and interview leadership staff from among existing tutoring personnel. Create applicant pool by contacting qualified applicants directly and soliciting referrals from faculty and staff members, current employees, etc. Administer content area diagnostic tests, conduct interviews, and hire applicants that can best help the the STUDY fulfill its mission of providing quality tutoring services to Texas State students.
- Schedule, mentor, and supervise 60-70 academic tutors and desk assistants. Conduct staff meetings and maintain communication with the STUDY staff regularly. Coordinate leadership staff in conducting performance evaluations for all tutors and lab assistants each semester through self-assessments, forms completed during interviews, and observations. Ensure accurate quantitative data collection by overseeing the training of undergraduate leadership and SLAC Desk Assistants. Coordinate the administration, accurate completion, and analysis of the STUDY client satisfaction surveys during a one-to-two-week period toward the end of each semester.
