Overview
The Summer Fun Program Coordinator leads the planning and administration of the City’s Summer Fun Program, ensuring a safe, engaging, and enriching experience for children ages 7–13. This role oversees program activities, supervises staff, and maintains strong communication with parents to foster positive relationships and resolve concerns. By managing operations and ensuring compliance with policies, the Coordinator plays a critical role in delivering a high-quality program that supports youth development and community engagement.

, for staff training, and camp runs from June 8, 2026 – July 31, 2026
; camps run for 8 weeks.
- Supervise Site Supervisor and Activity Leaders; provide training and guidance on City and departmental policies; ensure effective delivery of recreational programming for approximately 150 participants.
- Manage and administer the Summer Fun Program, including scheduling and coordinating on-site and off-site activities for school-aged children; maintain program documentation and respond to operational needs.
- Oversee and train approximately 11 seasonal staff members to ensure compliance with Parks and Recreation standards and program objectives.
- Monitor program activities and participant safety; remain available on-call to address urgent issues or situations impacting program operations.
- Maintain strong communication with parents and participants, including providing counseling support when necessary to promote positive experiences.
- An associate degree in education, Recreation Administration, or related field
- At least one (1) year of supervisory experience working with children in recreation and/or education setting
- Valid Texas Driver's License with acceptable driving record
- CPR Certification is required during week of training- administered by City of San Marcos
- Must work the full 9-week program, including training week
- Extensive experience working with children is preferred
- Knowledge of City and departmental policies, program procedures, and enrollment controls, including basic math for reviewing participant numbers
- Skill in effective verbal and written communication to address staff concerns, handle public inquiries, and provide counseling to children and parents
- Skill in training and monitoring seasonal employees, and in planning and assigning personnel to ensure successful program delivery
- Ability to analyze data, solve problems, and make sound decisions while managing multiple priorities and individuals simultaneously
- Ability to maintain a safe, structured, and engaging environment that supports program goals and participant well-being
This position requires the ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally. Subject to standing, sitting, walking, vision, hearing and talking frequently; lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing and balancing occasionally.
Work EnvironmentWorking conditions involve indoor and outdoor work, in the heat, sun, high humidity and wind; occasionally exposed to swimming pool chemicals, slippery surfaces; noise around crowds and whistles.
