Overview

Responsible for the maintenance and repair of the City’s electrical systems and equipment at wastewater lift stations, pressure stations, water storage tanks, and SCADA monitoring systems. Ensures the efficient and compliant operation of water and wastewater facilities in accordance with regulatory standards. Maintains accurate maintenance records, supports the construction and enhancement of water/wastewater infrastructure, and performs related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures the reliable operation of all City wastewater lift stations by programming, operating, maintaining, repairing, and upgrading associated systems, including generators, pumps, motors, electrical controls, and SCADA monitoring equipment.
  • Oversees the functionality of water pumping systems, wells, and pressure stations by performing routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and system enhancements to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Maintains and monitors water storage infrastructure—including ground storage, standpipe, and elevated tanks—ensuring proper function of pumps, motors, electrical systems, and SCADA components.
  • Conducts routine maintenance and testing of electrical and mechanical components such as conduits, junction boxes, wiring connections, pressure sensors, and backflow prevention devices to ensure system integrity and safety.
  • Maintains accurate and timely records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs to support regulatory compliance and operational transparency.
  • Responds to SCADA system alarms and provides on-call support for operational emergencies, equipment failures, and disaster response efforts.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to support the overall mission and functionality of the City’s water and wastewater systems.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Five (5) years’ industrial electrical maintenance experience
  • Level II Wastewater Collections, Class C Ground Water Treatment, or Class C Surface Water Treatment certifications are required within three (3) years of employment.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyman Electrician License

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of electrical systems, including the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, technical drawings, electrical code specifications, and manufacturers’ maintenance manuals.
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems, water and wastewater infrastructure, and preventive maintenance practices related to pumps, motors, generators, and control systems.
  • Skills in diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical and mechanical issues in complex utility systems.
  • Skills in verbal and written communication, with the ability to clearly document maintenance activities and interact effectively with internal departments, contractors, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Skills in using diagnostic tools, testing equipment, and software applications relevant to water and wastewater system monitoring and maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in prioritizing tasks and responding to emergencies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and external partners.
  • Ability to interpret and apply safety regulations, operational procedures, and technical standards in the performance of duties.
Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to lift up to 70 pounds occasionally. Subject to vision, hearing, and talking constantly; standing, sitting, walking, handling, bending, twisting, climbing, balancing and foot controls frequently; lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching and crawling occasionally.

Work Environment

Working conditions involve occasional exposure to variable and/or extreme weather conditions, vehicle traffic, machinery with moving parts, electrical currents, confined spaces, hazardous chemicals, and infectious diseases.
