Position OverviewThe bank is seeking an experienced Commercial Lender to help expand its commercial loan portfolio in the San Marcos market. This individual will serve as a generalist commercial banker, responsible for originating, structuring, and managing a diverse portfolio of CRE and C&I loans while developing strong relationships within the local business community.
The ideal candidate brings an established network in the market, a strong understanding of credit, and the ability to source new business while maintaining disciplined underwriting standards.
Key Responsibilities- Originate, structure, and close commercial loans, including Commercial Real Estate (CRE) and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) transactions
- Develop new business through active calling efforts, networking, and community involvement
- Build and manage a high‑quality commercial loan portfolio
- Analyze financial statements, cash flow, and collateral to assess credit risk
- Prepare and present credit requests in accordance with bank policies
- Maintain strong relationships with borrowers and serve as a trusted financial advisor
- Collaborate closely with senior management and credit partners, with direct access to decision‑makers
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal credit standards
- 5+ years of experience in commercial lending
- Experience with both CRE and C&I lending as a generalist
- Formal credit training and/or prior experience in a credit role
- Strong understanding of commercial underwriting and credit analysis
- Proven ability to source new loans and build a portfolio
- Established network and market presence in San Marcos and the surrounding area
- Excellent relationship management, communication, and business development skills
