Conducts a variety of maintenance work related to the support of the City’s wastewater lift stations, water production stations, pressure stations, water storage tanks, SCADA system, and reclaim station controls; diagnoses and repairs system and/or equipment issues; assists in monitoring facilities and stations for regulatory compliance; and performs other related duties.

The following list highlights the main responsibilities of this position. While it covers the core tasks, it may not include every duty that could be assigned. Employees may be asked to take on other responsibilities as needed to support the team and department.

  • Performs daily inspections and operational adjustments on instrumentation and control systems supporting the City’s Water and Wastewater Treatment facilities.
  • Maintains, monitors, and operates water production stations, pressure stations, storage tanks, wastewater lift stations, and reclaim stations to ensure reliable and efficient system performance.
  • Conducts functional testing, routine maintenance, and preventative care for electronic control equipment, including communication cables, antennas, and connections.
  • Calibrates, configures, diagnoses, and repairs electronic recording and transmitting devices; performs mechanical repairs such as piping, tubing, and bracket welding as needed.
  • Installs and modifies instrumentation and control systems; ensures proper operation and compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Implements and adjusts control circuits and software programs for data logging and system control; provides technical direction to contractors, engineers, and vendors during installation or specialized maintenance.
  • Inspects contractor and vendor installations for compatibility, functionality, and adherence to standards.
  • Monitors inventory levels and assists with procurement of materials, parts, and services; updates asset management systems and reviews reports for work order status and maintenance schedules.
  • Provides training and support to operators and users of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
  • Prepares schematics and maintains documentation of system parameters, control logic, performance data, and system changes.
  • Supports facility inventory management and maintains assigned departmental vehicles and equipment.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and provides on-call response to SCADA alarms, operational emergencies, and disaster-related incidents.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to support operational continuity and system reliability.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of technical training in electronic maintenance.
  • Class “D” water or Class I wastewater certification within two (2) years of employment.
  • Level II Wastewater Collections, Class C Distribution Water Treatment, or Class C Surface Water Treatment certifications are required within four (4) years of employment.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Required to perform after hours standby duties
  • Must be able to respond within one (1) hour for emergency calls.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of experience in the maintenance of process instrumentation and control equipment is preferred.
  • Experience programming PLC ladder logic is desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of regulations, building and electrical codes, schematics, work orders, equipment manuals, and maintenance documentation.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and professionally.
  • Skill in building and maintaining positive working relationships with City departments, external agencies, contractors, vendors, and the general public.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and apply technical documents and regulatory standards to operational and maintenance activities.
Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently. Subject to vision constantly; standing, sitting, walking, handling, fine dexterity, hearing and talking frequently; lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, kneeling, crouching, bending, climbing, balancing and foot/hand controls occasionally; crawling and twisting rarely.

Work Environment

Working conditions involve exposure to variable and/or extreme weather conditions, machinery with moving parts, electrical currents, hazardous chemicals, safety situations, elevated working conditions and infectious diseases.

Utilizes personal protective equipment as required.

This is a safety sensitive position.
